BAFTAs 2014

Last night London saw the cast’s of this years finest films walk the red carpet of the 2014 BAFTAs. Award ceremonies so far have been loaded with stunning gowns and new style icons however last night’s looks appeared a little dull overall.

Colour was lacking and black seemed to be everywhere. This being said there is always one person who makes up for the rest and this was lady of the moment Lupita Nyong’o. Famous for her outstanding supporting role in 12 Years A Slave, this newcomer has dominated almost every award ceremony when it comes to style.

She opts for striking colours which contrast her dark complexion and so instantly catches your eye. A turquoise gown by Christian Dior was her choice for the Baftas fitted to the waist then flowing into a structured train. The metallic belt along with matching cuffs helped create an hourglass shape and break up the block colour.

Cate Blanchett, Suki Waterhouse, Amy Adams and Helen Mirren all donned black ensembles. Angelina Jolie for some reason chose to add some androgyny to the event by wearing a very similar outfit to her husbands.

Samantha Barks

Samantha Barks brightened things up also as she wore a beautiful cream gown from the Calvin Klein collection. Swept back hair and a chunky necklace completed this stunning look. Naomie Harris sported a low cut hot pink dress to inject some colour into the event.

NYFW- BCBG Max Azria

Dramatic prints, dark tones and rich fabrics sum up the luxurious catwalks of New York Fashion Week. Many a designer pulled out all the stops to showcase their Autumn/Winter 2014 collections but in my opinion one stood out from the crowd.

Kicking off NYFW BCBG Max Azria, a fashion favourite with celebrities, displayed structured pieces with pastel coloured detailing. Oversized outerwear featured heavily in the collection creating layers and length. Accessories included knee high leather boots and large black clutch bags. An array of fur littered the outfits from furry snoods and collars to sumptuous muffs and scarves.

The use of lines throughout the clothing’s design added symmetrical elements to the already structured looks. However the designer opted for lengthy flowing skirts to balance the designs and add femininity. This aesthetic collection lit up the runway with beautiful, elegant and classy pieces certainly stealing the show.

The fantasy woman inspiring the designs of BCBG Max Azria appeared to ooze class, wealth and confidence. Monochrome is a her best friend but with a futuristic twist. Digital prints and luxurious textures complete the wardrobe of this everyday fashionista.

It must be said that a fresh pedicure or clean nail polish is a necessity donning these heels. Anyone that is conscious of their feet in any way you might feel a tad naked in these.

For an easy €15.00 Penneys offer a leather effect nude pair with a hot pink heel. They are the perfect way to add some colour to your dark winter wardrobe. Forever 21 began with the classic black suede style and have now branched out to pairs with metallic details. These retail at €35.90.
